New York City, New York – August 26, 2010 – Syfy’s Three Inches has added an all-star cast to the 90-minute pilot, starring Noah Reid (Strange Days at Blake Holsey High). James Marsters (…) Alona Tal (Veronica Mars), Craig Eldridge (Covert Affairs) and Julian Richings (Supernatural) will guest star in the pilot episode.

Alona Tal will guest star in the pilot as Lily Theroux, the kind, pretty girl next door and Walter’s long time crush who loves him but “not in that way.”

iF: Did you have a fun ride on SUPERNATURAL?

TAL: The best.

iF: Are you planning to expand your singer/songwriter aspect of your career yet?

TAL: It’s going to be private [in terms of not doing concerts] for now until I get the stage to do it. And then when the stage comes, and when it’ll be the right time, then it will. You know how Amanda Seyfried was, nobody knew she’s writing [lyrics], she’s composing, she’s singing and then all of a sudden, in DEAR JOHN, she gets to play an original song and it goes on the soundtrack of the movie. That to me was beautiful, it was very romantic and all of a sudden, she’s got a stage for it and now people know.

Tal admitted that country music is very different from her usual style, but working with show star Christian Kane, who also wrote the song she sings on-screen, was a lot of fun as well as a learning experience. In a way, he took her under his wing to help her nail not only the notes but also the emotion needed to make the performance as believable as possible.

“He told me the story behind writing the song. He told me the story behind the episode and how he’s used it in his life, and he told me a lot about his career, and he kind of just let me roll with that,” Tal shared. “And then the other pointers were more technical. But his support and guidance was more about his presence there while I was doing all of those things because I really wanted to make sure he was happy with it, seeing as how it was so close to home for him.”

Tal actually sings twice in the episode, the first time being one of those rare cases where the actor is actually singing live in the scene. Usually when filming a big musical number, the actors record the song in a studio for the “perfect” track to get laid over the scene in the post-production process. But in the opening of the episode she has an acoustic moment that she says was “technically impossible to do any other way” than live.

On sharing emotional scenes with guest star Alona Tal (Supernatural’s Jo Harvelle):
“She was amazing. It was going to be tough finding someone who can sing and act at the same time; it’s one of the toughest things; I don’t know a lot of people who can do it…We all know her as a great actress, but the singing part was just a blessing in disguise. If she wouldn’t have been able to nail that, the episode won’t work. It was a very emotional driven piece on all sides of it. There’s a little bit of comedy in there with the rest of the crew, but I’m very proud that she was able to come in and do that.”

iF MAGAZINE: What is your character Kaye Lynn like in the LEVERAGE episode “The Studio Job”?

ALONA TAL: She’s an aspiring country songwriter/singer who’s struggling for her break and she’s the quintessential talented unknown, starving for the art and gets into some trouble. [The Leverage team] come and assist.

iF: Do you play in the episode?

TAL: No, I don’t. I have to teach [Christian Kane’s character] Eliot one or two chords, which is so not what that scene is about, so the teaching is not really what’s really happening in that scene.

iF: How was working with Christian Kane?

TAL: He is so devoted to this [music]. It’s a part of his actual life, this story and the music. So he was there [on set] all hours of the day, whatever was needed to help with the input, to help with the singing and help with the storyline. For a guest actor to come in and have one of the leads be so open and so there for you is very refreshing and very rewarding.
